Warehouses and Distribution Centres

Warehouses and Distribution Centres

Delivering financial savings, carbon reductions and energy independence.

With typically large expanses of unused roof space and colossal energy bills, the distribution, transport and logistics sectors are a perfect case for installing solar panels, battery storage and clean energy solutions to deliver financial savings, carbon reductions and energy independence.
SolarSense provide warehouses with a supply, installation and maintenance service for industrial-scale solar panels and offer a range of finance options, including 100% asset finance and a competitive power purchase agreement (PPA).

Low cost, secure and clean electricity for warehouses

Solarsense is a proud member of the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA). An independent research report, commissioned by the UKWA has identified that the UK has the roof space for up to 15GW of new solar power, which could:

  1. Double UK’s solar capacity
  2. Reduce carbon emissions by 2 million tonnes/year
  3. Cut warehousing electricity costs from between 40-80%
  4. Save the warehousing sector £3bn/year
  5. Provide a more secure power supply
  6. Enable the sector to become a net producer of green electricity

Turn your unused roof space into an asset

A typical industrial-scale solar panel system will provide free electricity for more than 25 years, achieve financial returns of more than 15% per annum and pay back installation costs within 5-years.

Reduce costs and improve your bottom line

The carbon trust states that a 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom line benefit as a 5% increase in sales. Investing in renewable energy technology not only reduces your bills but fixes them for the foreseeable future. Forward thinking businesses are spending a little now to save a lot in the future.

Reduce your carbon footprint and spearhead the drive to Net Zero

The UK Warehousing Association states that solar panels could save the logistics industry £3 billion per year, through energy savings and additional income from energy sales. This could avoid emissions for up to 2 million tonnes of CO2(e) per year by reducing reliance on grid electricity, which is still heavily supported by natural gas.
Spearheading the drive to net zero will not only create a competitive advantage for your business, but a positive boost to your reputation that can be communicated to your customers and key stakeholders, helping you to win more business.

Future proof your business and power your electric fleet with free electricity

The UK government has set a target of ending non-electric vehicle sales by 2030. On roof solar panels and solar carports offer both a means to powering your operations and (or) the infrastructure to charge electric vehicles with cheaper and cleaner energy.
Installing a solar carport or integrating EV charge points with solar panels also offers an opportunity to generate an income from low grade parking spaces by billing your visitors and (or) staff to charge their vehicles on-site.

Immediate bottom line savings with no upfront cost

power purchase agreement (PPA) has quickly become one of the most popular ways for large organisations to finance solar panels. If your energy usage and roof space meet specific criteria, this solution will allow you to benefit from a free solar PV installation, financed by a PPA provider.
Our combined technical team design each solar carport from scratch, tailored to your budget and requirements. Our solar carport solutions are quick and easy to install, saving on time and cost. They can be branded, adapted, expanded and will maintain their value over time.

Finance for solar panels

Whilst self-financing is the most popular option for purchasing commercial solar panels and offers the best returns over the lifetime of a system, many companies have restricted budgets or would prefer to spend their capital elsewhere.
Solarsense has partnered with some of the UK’s leading financial institutions. From asset finance to solar panel leasing, we will ensure you receive the best advice available and a bespoke finance package to suit your specific business. Benefits of solar panels

How can solar panels benefit my business?

Huge price drops in solar panels

The price of installing solar panels has dropped significantly creating reduced payback periods and increased savings.

Reduce business overheads

The Carbon Trust states that a 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom-line benefit as a 5% increase in sales.

Create a healthy ROI

A typical commercial solar panel system will achieve returns of more than 15% per annum and pay back installation costs within 4-5 years.

Improve your carbon footprint

Generate and use your own clean energy to lower your energy demand from fossil fuels, reduce your emissions and improve environmental sustainability.

Spearhead the drive to Net Zero

Create a positive boost to your reputation that can be communicated to your customers and stakeholders, helping you to win more business.

Charge your EV fleet with free energy

Solar panels offer both a means to powering your operations and (or) the infrastructure to charge electric vehicles with cheaper and cleaner energy.

Warehouses often have large amounts of unused roofspace, which makes them ideal for solar panel installation. These large, flat and unobstructed roofspaces can typically support a large solar panel system installation, which allows you to save more money each year on electricity bills. You are also able to increase your green credentials and create greener operational processes across your business. With warehouses often located near industrial infrastructure, the sector is one of the best to benefit from solar panel installation.

The main benefits of solar panel PV installation for your warehouse or distribution centre are that you will generate your own cheaper and cleaner electricity. This also provides you with energy security against uncertainty on energy bills and dependency on major energy suppliers and the national grid. Warehouses often have large amounts of unused roofspace available as well as large roof surface areas, which can see significant savings on your energy bills. Get in touch with our team for your free initial consultation.

As long as the roof of your warehouse or distribution centre is unobstructed and has available roof space, you are able to install solar panels on the roof. As these commercial buildings have large roof spaces, it’s rare that you won’t have an area of the building that isn’t north-facing, which will make most buildings in this sector suitable for installation. If your roof is showing signs of age or damage, it may not be structurally secure enough to safely support solar panels. If this is the case, then we recommend a professional assessment of your roof before installation, in which your roof may have to be repaired or reinforced. Your solar panels can be installed alongside the upgrade of your roof.

There are a number of funding options for installing commercial solar PV. We have partnered with some of the UK’s leading financial institutions and can offer up to 100% loans. From asset finance and hire purchase to a solar PV power purchase agreement (PPA); we will ensure you receive the best advice possible and a finance package to suit your specific business Please contact us for more information.

Solar panel systems constructed and installed on an industrial scale provide significant savings and provide free electricity for more than 25 years. Financial returns are typically 15% per annum, with your solar panel system paying back installation costs within 5 years. Larger systems can see returns in as little as 4 years. Investing in renewable solar energy future-proofs your business and effectively fixes your energy costs for the foreseeable future, compared to constant uncertainty from national energy providers.

Solarsense offer operations, maintenance and monitoring on every commercial renewable energy system installed. Each technology will require a different level of maintenance, however, we will discuss this with you as part of the project schedule.

Yes, we offer a range of monitoring solutions so that you can keep on track of your systems’ performance. Contact us for more information.

Our remote monitoring equipment will alert us to a fault immediately and it is our responsibility to resolve the problem through our long-term operations and maintenance contract. To minimise the risk of any such issues, we only specify and install high quality equipment supported by long term warranties and guarantees.

Battery solar storage systems include a battery that can be charged with the electricity or excess electricity that is generated by your solar panels. You are also able to charge the battery directly from the grid, and you can take advantage of cheaper off-peak rates in the winter or darker days, where your solar panels are not running as efficiently as possible, or electricity generation is limited.

Solar battery storage is recommended when you are installing or upgrading a solar panel PV system. Some systems come equipped with Emergency Power Supply (EPS) capabilities, in which your solar battery will power your business in the case of a power cut. Solar batteries can also be retroactively installed in existing solar PV systems if they do not currently feature a battery system.
