The 527 solar panels installed at the Uni Mill factory are estimated to payback installation costs within 3-years and generate a net profit of more than £2.4m over 25-years.
Uni Mill Engineering Ltd is a leading manufacturing company based on the M4 corridor in Swindon, Wiltshire. Established in 1977, the organisation has more than 40-years experience in manufacturing for a wide range of clients within the automotive, aerospace, defence, electronics and medical sectors.
Operating out of their high technology manufacturing site, the organisation was aware of their carbon footprint and high energy usage, leading the company to explore options for generating their own clean energy on-site.
“Like many organisations, we have become increasingly aware of our carbon footprint and are focused on the ways we can improve our environmental sustainability. As a manufacturer, one of the key areas identified was the high levels of electricity required to power our machinery, therefore we decided to install a large-scale solar panel system capable of providing enough renewable energy to help significantly reduce our imported energy. Working with Solarsense we were able to analyse their projected data for our site and perform a cost-benefit analysis, which determined a 237kWp system would provide the optimum solution”.

SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION
Uni Mill Engineering required a highly qualified renewable energy company to design, develop, install, and maintain a highly efficient solar panel system for their factory roof in Swindon. As a manufacturer, their energy demand was significant enough to support the procurement of a self-generating energy system to support their operations.
With significantly high energy costs due to the energy crisis and the need for companies to reduce their carbon emissions, Uni Mill approached Solarsense to design a solar PV system for their factory roof. This initiative was the first renewable energy scheme for Uni Mill Engineering and demonstrates their commitment to decarbonisation in the lead up to net-zero.
As well as mitigating more than 61 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, the large-scale on roof solar panel system is estimated to generate a net profit of more than £2.4million for the organisation over the next 25-years and payback installation costs in just over 3-years.
