Regular servicing and maintenance will ensure that your solar PV system is operating correctly and performing to its maximum capacity. Each system is individually designed according to its location, size and complexity and will therefore require a different level of maintenance, however, we will discuss this with you as part of your project schedule.
Solarsense offer both reactive and preventative maintenance for residential systems that we have installed and those we haven’t. We have extensive knowledge in solar PV systems and often undertake servicing and repairs on systems installed by other contractors.
Keeping on top of your systems’ performance
Solar PV is a low maintenance technology: little should go wrong with a well-built system. However as with any complex electrical equipment, issues which were not envisaged such as the environment, third party interference or component failure can cause unanticipated problems.
Over time system faults or component issues such as an inverter failure can occur that can cause losses in generation, costing you money in the long-term. We recommend that you periodically check your equipment, including your inverter for the obvious signs of faults and check your production on a regular basis to ensure you don’t lose out on your valuable income and savings.
However, as with all electrical equipment it is paramount that you follow the safety guidelines set out at installation and do not tamper with any of the equipment. We advise that you have one of our solar electricians undergo a professional service once every five years. This will help to identify any intermittent faults and uphold any warranties on the equipment you have purchased.
Five-yearly system service
Our recommended annual system service and report – equally beneficial for solar PV and solar thermal technologies:
- Visual check of all rails and mountings
- Visual check of module condition
- Full string test
- Visual & physical check of all MC4 connectors
- Interrogation of inverter display error codes and logs
- Full inverter diagnostic testing and checking of monitoring connectivity
- Visual check of all system AC & DC electrics
- Inverter & fan dust and clean
- Specialist electrical testing of the solar PV circuits
- Full report of system condition & operation provided to system owner
Solar PV system repairs
SolarSense provides fault finding and repair services for both existing SolarSense customers and third-party PV installations. Where a system fault, inverter failure or loss of generation occurs, our engineers can investigate the issue, identify the cause and carry out the required remedial works.
Typical repairs include replacement of failed meters, isolators and protective devices, reconnection or replacement of monitoring equipment, inverter replacement, optimiser replacement and other electrical repairs required to restore the system to operation.
