AUMA Actuators is the UK division of the AUMA Group – a leading manufacturer of electric valve actuators, gearboxes and automation systems for the water, energy, industrial and process sectors.
Operating from its manufacturing and assembly facility in Clevedon, Bristol, the company plays a vital role in supporting national infrastructure, supplying equipment essential to reliable water treatment, power generation, energy networks and large-scale industrial operations.
Sustainability and operational efficiency are central to AUMA’s UK strategy. The business has previously invested in solar PV, LED lighting, air-source heat pumps and an expanding electric vehicle fleet, alongside ongoing improvements designed to lower energy consumption across its manufacturing site.
As part of their continued commitment to Net Zero, AUMA sought to replace and upgrade its legacy Feed-in Tariff solar PV system – originally installed by a third party and no longer performing reliably – while expanding its clean energy infrastructure to meet rising electrical demand.
Recognising our strong reputation, proven technical capability and successful track record across complex commercial and industrial sites, AUMA appointed SolarSense to design, install and maintain a fully integrated clean energy system combining new commercial solar PV, on-site battery storage and EV charging infrastructure.
This holistic approach not only improves energy resilience and reduces grid dependence, but also provides a scalable foundation that will support the site as its energy needs continue to grow.
The result is a robust, future-proofed renewable energy system – integrating solar PV, battery storage and EV-charging infrastructure that delivers long-term environmental and financial benefits while reinforcing AUMA’s position as a responsible, forward-thinking manufacturer.
Clean Energy System
SolarSense delivered a combined clean energy upgrade for AUMA, integrating a new rooftop solar PV system, on-site battery storage and EV charging capability.
At the heart of the clean energy system is a high-performance 93kWp solar PV array, designed to maximise energy generation across the available roof space and significantly surpass the output of the ageing Feed-in Tariff PV system it replaced. The new installation now produces approximately 96,500kWh of clean electricity each year, cutting AUMA’s annual carbon emissions by 22,158kg and providing a long-term reduction in operational energy costs.
To enhance energy resilience and increase self-consumption, the solar PV system was integrated with a 45kWh Sigenergy battery energy storage system (BESS). The solar battery system captures surplus daytime generation and releases it when demand peaks or when EVs are charging, enabling the site to make full use of the renewable energy it produces. This integrated approach also ensures that the company’s expanding fleet of electric vehicles can be charged using clean, on-site solar energy rather than more expensive electricity bought from the national grid.
The clean energy system required careful engineering to ensure safe, efficient and future-proof operation. SolarSense delivered enhancements to the site’s electrical infrastructure, including an upgraded DNO supply, a DSH-split PV configuration and improvements to the main distribution board. Crucially, the entire solution was designed to maintain AUMA’s previous Feed-in Tariff income, allowing the company to retain the financial benefits of its original scheme while upgrading to a modern, higher-yield PV system.
In line with AUMA’s strong environmental values, SolarSense also ensured the responsible reuse of the company’s previous solar panels through its charity donation programme. A total of 300 solar panels removed from the AUMA site were repurposed and combined with 150 brand-new modules, before being donated to farms and homesteads in Ukraine that are critical to food production across the war-torn country.

Results
Enhanced Energy Resilience – the integrated solar and battery system strengthens AUMA’s ability to manage rising energy demand, reducing exposure to grid volatility and improving operational security.
Financial Savings – the clean energy system delivers significant reductions in energy costs, enabling AUMA to benefit from lower consumption charges, improved efficiency and greater protection against rising energy prices.
Improved Self-Consumption – the 45kWh battery stores surplus solar generation for use during peak demand, increasing on-site consumption of renewable energy and reducing reliance on imported electricity.
Continuation of Feed-in Tariff Benefits – careful design and commissioning ensured AUMA retained its FiT revenue while upgrading to a modern, higher-performing system.
Carbon Reduction – the new system generates 96,500kWh of clean electricity each year, cutting annual carbon emissions by 22,158kg and supporting the company’s long-term decarbonisation strategy.
Modernised Site Infrastructure – upgraded electrical capacity, improved energy distribution and EV-charging integration create a scalable platform capable of supporting future operational growth.
Low-Carbon Transport – the system powers AUMA’s expanding EV fleet with clean, low-cost electricity generated and stored on-site.
Social Impact – the responsible reuse of AUMA’s legacy solar panels, supplemented with additional new units, provides essential renewable energy to Ukrainian farms and homesteads critical to food production in the war-torn country.
Operational Leadership – the project reinforces AUMA’s position as a forward-thinking manufacturer, demonstrating sector leadership in net-zero strategy and low-carbon energy infrastructure.
From the client
“Upgrading our solar PV system with additional energy storage and EV-charging was an important part of our net zero commitments, particularly as we continue to grow our electric fleet. We were delighted to donate our previous solar panels and would urge other businesses to do the same. It’s a win-win for us – we’ve found the best home possible for them, and it allows us to get even more energy out of our new upgraded system, helping us reduce energy costs even further in the future.
We chose SolarSense because they are a renewable energy supplier with a strong reputation, and the collaboration went exactly as planned. Communication was clear throughout, and despite some challenges with our existing system (installed by a third-party), SolarSense delivered a high-quality solution. We’re already seeing positive changes on-site and would recommend SolarSense to other businesses looking to adopt solar energy.”
