BEIS £1bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

CLEAN ENERGY FINANCE AND GRANTS

BEIS £1bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched a £1 billion Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This scheme provides grant funding for heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across the public sector, central government departments and non-departmental public bodies.

The £1 billion scheme is part of the Chancellor’s ‘Plan for Jobs 2020’ commitment to support the UK’s economic recovery from COVID-19, supporting up to 30,000 skilled jobs in the low carbon and energy efficiency sectors. The scheme will also support the government’s net zero and clean growth goals.

This funding is to be for non-domestic buildings in England, with an aim of supporting the delivery of green investment initiatives including solar projects. It is hoped that this will then deliver “significant” carbon and financial savings in the public sector and stimulate the economy.

What organisations can apply for the grant?

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) is open to central government departments, local authorities and other public-sector organisations including NHS Foundation Trusts.

It will provide grant funding for projects that are verified to improve energy efficiency such as commercial solar panels. The amount granted will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by Salix finance. For more information, including project deadlines please see the Salix website or Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme Guidance document.

A commercial solar PV system significantly reduces your organisations’ carbon emissions, whilst considerably reducing your energy costs for the long term. A typical large-scale PV system will provide free electricity for more than 25 years and achieve returns of more than 12% per year.
