Sustainable and low carbon heating for the home
Whether installed in a small flat or large detached property, Ecodan can reduce your heating costs, lower your carbon emissions and offer reliable, sustainable heating and hot water all year round for the majority of homes and small commercial properties.
Ecodan can be installed to replace an existing heating system or work alongside it as a ‘hybrid’ set up. It is an ideal solution for new build properties and renovation projects and is compatible with underfloor heating as well as traditional radiators. It is also simpler to maintain than other heating systems such as gas and with professional maintenance can offer an average life span of 15-20 years.
Combining heat pumps and solar panels
Integrating a heat pump with your solar panels is a great way to mitigate the running costs associated with heating your home. More and more homeowners are now combining different technologies in line with the way they use their energy to increase the benefits available.
A residential solar PV system is the perfect match for an air source heat pump. Using relevant measures of energy, for every kW of electricity that your PV panels produce, your heat pump can create up to 4.3kW of heating and hot water. If your heat pump is being run or supplemented by the ‘free’ electricity produced by your solar PV panels, your running costs decrease even further; allowing you to use more of your ‘clean’ energy, instead of exporting it to the grid.
The renewable heat incentive (RHI)
Air source heat pumps are eligible for the renewable heat incentive. The RHI is a UK Government financial incentive introduced to promote the use of renewable heat, which is due to come to an end in March 2022. If you join and comply with the scheme rules, you’ll receive quarterly payments for seven years for the amount of clean, green renewable heat the system produces.
For an average 4-bed semi detached house, you could expect to get back approximately £7,000 in total (over the seven-year period), meaning that your heat pump will virtually pay for itself.
