The hybrid battery solution

With recent advancements in technology, the most cost effective way of installing a home battery, is opting for a hybrid system that uses the same inverter for both your solar panels and battery, thereby reducing the cost by up to 50%.

With the price of the energy continuously rising, it now makes economic sense to opt for a hybrid system rather than stand alone solar panels. For larger homes, we recommend the Tesla Powerwall which offers 13.5kWh of storage.

The Hybrid Solution – GivEnergy

Available in 3.6kW and 5kW models, the GivEnergy battery is an ideal retrofit solution for homeowners with a 4kW or 6kW solar panel system. The hybrid inverter changes your PV DC power into AC to feed into the mains and can be directly charged from your solar panels making it highly efficient.

The smart enabled system uses cloud based monitoring and control via the web and smart phone app. As well as charging from your solar panels the GivEnergy battery can utilise a flexible energy tariff and charge during cheaper times of day.

The battery packs use Lithium-Ion LiFePO4 battery store modules of 3.2kWh. 6.3kWh and 8.2kWh scalable up to 40kWh. The system is rated IP65 for exterior installation, has a 10 year capacity warranty and is fully recyclable at end of life.

Tesla Powerwall 2

With up to 13.5kWh of storage and the capability to deliver 5kW of continuous power the Tesla Powerwall offers great value for money and is the most efficient home battery in terms of cost per kWh.

The Powerwall is a completely automated system that requires no maintenance and will update over time via over-the-air software updates.

All models of the Powerwall 2 are fitted with a back-up gateway and ‘island mode’ feature, ensuring your home remains switched on during a power cut. Through the Tesla mobile app, you gain full visibility and control over your self-powered home.

How long will a battery last?
Like the life of your mobile phone, the lifespan of your battery will depend on how often it is charged and discharged. Each manufacturer offers a minimum number of charging cycles and a warranty period as standard.
What are battery units made of?
There are a number of different technologies on the market, but generally speaking most solar batteries use lithium-ion technology due to its higher efficiency and depth of discharge.
Should I wait for technology to improve?
People often ask whether there is a new breakthrough on the horizon that they should hold-out for. In reality, over the 24 years that we have been in business we have found that breakthroughs in the lab rarely translate to practical solutions for people's homes or businesses. We only source tried and tested, ‘tier one’ products from the world’s leading manufacturers and will use the most up to date kit available at the point of installation. We will always notify you if there are any changes to the products listed in your design specification.
Will the installation of a battery affect my Feed-in Tariff payments?
No, in most cases solar PV batteries are AC coupled meaning that the energy is stored after your inverter has converted the energy from DC and your meter has measured it.
