CHARITY PROJECTS

Solarsense partner with Stroud Community Agriculture

Solarsense, one of the UK’s leading renewable energy contractors, has partnered with Stroud Community Agriculture as their local charity for the upcoming year.

Stroud Community Agriculture Ltd (SCA) is a community supported organic/biodynamic farm which is run by and for its members. Like other members of the CSA network, its main aim is to build a community around the production of our food. SCA produces fresh organic/biodynamic produce for its members. Members pay an annual membership fee and optional further payments in order to receive fresh and sustainable produce, including vegetables and organic, pasture fed meat. All of their produce is certified organic and biodynamic.

Stroud Community Agriculture aims to provide as many people as possible in the local area with opportunities to make direct links with farming and food. More specifically SCA aims to:

  • Pay the people who work on the farm a fair wage
  • Develop a rich variety of crops, livestock and other projects that meet the needs of the farm and the people who support the farm
  • Provide opportunities for as many people as possible to make connections to the farm in whatever ways work for them
  • Manage the farm in a way that is sensitive to the local environment, wildlife and ecological system

Both SCA and Solarsense share a number of key values and as such, Richard Simon, our very own Technical Director has volunteered as a Clean Energy Consultant to advise the organisation on their long-term energy strategy. Richard is undertaking a feasibility study of the farm being powered by renewable energy. As the organisation is growing rapidly, their key aims still remain to improve the soil quality of the local area and provide a better wage for their employees. Installing renewables such as solar panels and wind technologies will allow the organisation to save vital energy costs whilst improving the carbon footprint of the farm and surrounding buildings. He will assist with the planning applications, costings and sources of grant funding. Once all funding is in place he will then advise as to project implementation so that the farm can operate as sustainably as possible.
