Majority of UK homeowners want to install solar panels, poll finds

More than half of the British public would install solar panels and home batteries, if there was greater assistance from the government, polling has found.

With energy prices rising again for many this year, it seems that more homeowners are looking to solar and renewable energy solutions as an answer to saving money on their bills and reducing their carbon footprint.

While many have already made their homes more energy efficient, 62% said they wanted to install solar and a surprisingly high 60% would buy an energy storage device such as the Tesla Powerwall.

Feed-in Tariff closure

The results of this poll come in spite of the news that the FiT tariff is expiring in April 2019, with no replacement expected to be announced.

The FiT has achieved the aim of reducing the overall cost of fitting solar panels. Installing a solar PV system today is (approximately) half the cost of what it was in 2010 when the incentive was first introduced.

Come April 2019, installing solar panels without the government subsidy will remain a viable option for homeowners looking to reduce their energy bills and improve their impact on the environment. However, 2018 offers a last chance to take advantage of this free incentive while it remains on offer.
