Pilton Methodist Church
Pilton Methodist Church is located in the South West of England near Glastonbury.
Solarsense has recently completed an installation for Pilton Methodist Church. Integrating solar roof slates, conventional on-roof solar PV and a 3phase Tesla Powerwall (Gateway 2), the project is the first church system in the UK to completely match traditional slates with solar tiles.
SunPower (Additional) Solar PV Array | System size: 3.2kWp | No. of modules: 8 x 400W
In order to increase the overall system output, Solarsense designed and installed an additional solar panel array utilising the unused space on the adjacent East/West facing roof. As space was limited, the design team opted for high efficiency SunPower modules: allowing for more power and savings per available space.
The SunPower Maxeon panels combine the top efficiency, durability and warranty available in the market today: resulting in more long-term energy generation and savings. The 8 modules alone will deliver a further 2,674kW hours of clean energy for the church to use, mitigating a further 741kg of carbon emissions annually.
Clean Energy System
GB-Sol Solar Slate Roof | System size: 3.85kWp | No. of solar slates: 140
PV Slate creates stunning roofs that have the look and feel of natural slate combined with the hidden electricity generating power of efficient solar cells. Manufactured in Wales, the GB-Sol PV Slates have been designed and independently tested to withstand the extremes of the UK weather and are popular with UK Local Authority planning departments, churches and listed buildings due to their discreet, aesthetic appeal.
Tesla Powerwall | Usable capacity: 13.5kW | Warranty: 10 years
Solar panels typically generate more clean energy than your property can immediately use. Solarsense therefore integrated the Pilton Methodist Church Hall PV system with a Tesla Powerwall. The A/C coupled battery allows the Church to store any excess solar generation; increasing their use of clean energy and reducing their reliance on expensive electricity bought from their energy provider. With up to 13.5kWh of storage and the capability to deliver 5kW of continuous power the Tesla Powerwall 2 offers great value for money and is the most efficient solar battery in terms of cost per kWh.
