Client

Churchill Academy and Sixth Form, previously known as Churchill Community Foundation School and Sixth Form Centre, is an academy situated in the village of Churchill, North Somerset.

With high energy costs and a number of expansive roof spaces, the school was an ideal match for solar PV, however, was not in a position to fund an installation themselves.

The academy therefore opted to partner with Low Carbon Gordano, a co-operative in North Somerset who help local communities to reduce their energy costs and become more sustainable.

Task

By opting for a community funded system, the school is able to buy their electricity from LCG at a discounted rate, reducing their energy bills and improving their carbon footprint with zero capital outlay.

The 565-panel system is fitted across four school buildings and is estimated to generate 199,253kW hours per year, the equivalent to an 89,465kg saving in carbon emissions.

The smart energy system offers an opportunity to educate and inspire the next generation about sustainability and renewable energy technology.
