Nylaplas Engineering is a high performance plastic precision engineering business based in Bristol. The organisation was established over 40-years ago and comprises a fully equipped CNC machine shop dedicated to delivering precision components and supplying high performance plastics for a diverse customer base including aerospace, oil and gas, healthcare and Formula 1.
The growth of the family owned business has been achieved by continuous investment in the latest technology and manufacturing techniques, development of a highly-skilled workforce and focus on high-quality standards. This, combined with rising energy costs and the need for companies to reduce their carbon emissions, lead to the company to approach Solarsense to install a solar panel system on their factory roof.
“As a leading engineering company specialising in the precision manufacturing of plastic components for a range of industries, we use a vast amount of electricity for our day-to-day operations. Reducing our impact on the environment and sustainability is really important to us and to deliver overall cost savings over the lifetime of the project was a win- win for the organisation. Installing solar energy was a huge step in our environmental journey and will allow us to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels in the future.” Chris Eastman, Managing Director – Nylaplas
Solar Panel System
Nylaplas required a highly qualified renewable energy company to design, develop, install, and maintain a highly efficient solar PV system for their factory roof in Nailsea. After a period of energy consultation, it was deemed their energy demand was significant enough to support the procurement of a self-generating energy system to support their operations.
Solarsense designed, supplied and installed a large-scale solar PV system on their three factory units. The combined 114.75kWp solar panel system is comprised of 306 solar panels and is estimated to produce approximately 102,803kW hours of renewable electricity per year, approximately 50% of the company’s overall annual usage.
As well as reducing the costs associated with thermoplastic engineering, the industrial solar panel system will mitigate 29 tonnes of carbon emissions per year – significantly improving the carbon footprint of the organisation and future proofing the business in the move towards electrification.
