Solar PV for architects & designers

Interpreting plans and specifications is second nature to us. We have worked on a huge range of developments, from industrial facilities and volume housing developments to single dwellings and landscape architecture installations. As a result, we understand buildings and will help to make the integration of renewables into any building a harmonious process rather than a challenge.

Whether you are working on achieving a Code For Sustainable Homes, BREEAM, Passivhaus, AECB or similar accreditation for your project, or trying to meet statutory requirements for on-site renewable energy generation, Solarsense will help you realise this in the most efficient manner.

Design-led working method

We have worked with a local structural engineering practice for several years and as a result have been able to establish a design-led working method. Due to this approach we are able to provide solutions to design or structural challenges where other contractors have failed.

Whilst much of our business involves either bolt-in or bolt-on technologies, we have an appetite for integration with existing or planned structures. Solarsense has completed some of the “first” UK installations using building-integrated products, and has significant experience in various building-integrated PV (BIPV) arrays in particular.

Award-winning installations

We place great emphasis on the quality of our installations. Our first-class design, delivery and support has resulted in more than 19 industry awards, including ‘National Solar PV Contractor of the Year’ and ‘Commercial Project of the Year’.

Everything you need to make an informed decision

How does solar PV work?
Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells which capture and convert the sun’s energy into direct current (DC) electricity. This DC electricity is then passed through an inverter which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity and can be fed through a meter into your consumer unit. Your system will automatically use the free, clean electricity you’ve generated before switching back to the grid as needed. If you have a battery storage system integrated any surplus electricity generated will be stored for use later on.
Are all Solarsense operatives qualified and do they carry CSCS cards as standard?
Our installation team all hold the relevant CSCS and site safety cards.
Can you install solar panels top a roof containing asbestos?
The simple answer is yes. However, as a professional company with a high regard for health and safety, there are procedures that we must follow. If there is a perceived risk we will arrange for a specialist company to take samples and test them. The turn-around from the laboratory on this is 3-4 days. If asbestos is found we will still be able to complete the installation, however, we will have to add a small premium to the cost of the job to cover respiration equipment, full-body suits, gloves and shoe covers for all workers.
Do Solarsense provide a named project manager to supervise my installation?
Yes, every job is supported by a dedicated project manager. They will guide you every step of the way, including; DNO/G98/G99/grant applications, MCS registrations and planning permissions.
